Please note that these description are to give you a sense of what the roles could cover and what we see as being important for the running of GYBN UK. However, there is of course flexibility for leads to make the positions their own and follow their interests.
GYBN UK is at a crucial point where we need to bring in funding to support our activities. This includes project work such as the UK Youth Priorities for Nature, attendance at COP17, and general running costs.
Key responsibilities
Work closely with the coordinator on fundraising and building partnerships and general development needs for the chapter
Identifying funding opportunities - eg promoted grants and funds
Lead/oversee grant writing
Identify partner funding opportunities - developing relationships with donors
Keeping track of any financial management
Develop a fundraising strategies
Develop a funding cheat sheet (essentially a place where all the information is that is likely to be asked for in a grant application)
GYBN UK is at the stage of determining the future formal structure and governance arrangements. Over the next year we look to get established as a formal entity (eg. charity, not-for-profit) with the OD leads working closely with the Coordinator. We’re really looking for someone who has experience or knowledge of this, or a keen desire to develop this skill.
Key responsibilities
Work closely with the coordinator and fundraising lead on the most appropriate registration of GYBN UK
Lead in the thinking of future branding
Help inform the future structure and ways of working for the organisation working closely with the network and membership leads
GYBN UK looks to ensure our engagement in representative of the UK youth - this means developing good partnerships with other youth-led groups and initiatives. We also look to work collaboratively with other organisations in the nature conservations space to encourage youth participation and joined up policy implementation.
Key responsibilities
Management/ keeping track of engagement with partners
Work with coordinator to develop relationships with partner organisations
Work with media lead to identify partners to engage with in our media
Keep track of campaigns and what our partners are talking about/ engaging with
Draft a position on who we will work with and who we won’t (ie. avoiding those who green/youth wash)
The role does not include government partnerships as government engagement is through policy leads

The smooth and proactive general running of GYBN UK is vital to ensure we keep moving forward, volunteers feel empowered to take action, and that GYBN UK comes across professionally with partners.
Key responsibilities
Manage the mailbox - labelling mail, spot if there’s mail not being answered
Maintain slack channels
Help keep google drive tidy
Keep track of our accounts - password changes
Keep membership of accounts tidy - adding new people and removing those who have left
Support development of a data management statement (including gdpr)
Schedule meetings (on google cal or zoom if needed)
Support in the creation of agenda items (collating agenda items)
The image and ‘face’ of GYBN UK is maintained through our media. It is a crucial part of meeting our capacity and network building objectives. It is vital it is kept alive and engaging.
Key responsibilities
Main contact to other orgs/network media leads
Lead in creation of social media, website, publication materials promoting our work
Lead on GYBN UK design including designing campaign badges and changes to logo and design elements
developing the Social Media Plan and Strategy
Branding bible (eg. key messages, colours, logo locations, templates on canva etc)
Social media code of conduct
Our policy leads are key members of the team keeping up to date on devolved policy, leading on identifying opportunities for policy engagement, and engagement with government on policy development.
Key responsibilities
Lead for each of the devolved nations policy
Responsible for keeping up with and being aware of the relevant National Biodiversity Strategies and Actions Plans (NBSAP) and policy developments.
Flagging opportunities for engagement or input (eg. consultations)
Reporting back on developments or engagement
Alongside the Chapter Coordinator (UK Gov lead), key point of contact with decision-makers
Sit in advisory panels or stakeholder forums (eg. National Biodiversity Forum)
Supports engagement with JNCC
Work with media lead on capacity building content specific to policy
GYBN UK are at the point of needing to expand, formalise and build the network of young people we have.This role will look to deliver on our objective of developing a strong and united youth.
Key responsibilities
Develop a volunteer recruitment plan and onboarding materials
Lead in the development of the GYBN UK network, including platforms, recruitment, planning content
Develop what working groups will look like and how they work
Once network is established lead in driving engagement
Our work to develop representative and iterative youth priorities is vital in shaping all engagement GYBN UK has on policy and with government and other agencies.
Key responsibilities
Put together the GYBN UK ‘offer’ regarding delivering youth priority workshops
Track actions for the project and ensure they’re met
Reach out to interested organisations
Coordinate the delivery of workshops
Track and promote survey responses
Review and amend UK Youth Priorities for Nature in response to growing survey and workshop numbers
As well as England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales, the UK represents 14 Overseas Territories and 3 Crown Dependencies in international policy (including the CBD). Therefore, we have ambitions to develop positive working relationships with youth across the OTCDs.
Key responsibilities
Scoping exercise of the currently established networks and routes to engagement with OTCD in regards to biodiversity
Lead in establishing GYBN UKs position for engagement whether this be supportive or establishing a route for youth input to the UK priorities
Depending on the chosen route, alongside the Coordinator, manage relationships with organisations and youths in regards to OTCD
